Hurtmore Golf Club 25th Anniversary
Legendary television commentator Peter Alliss returned to Hurtmore Golf Club on Saturday September 9th to join members for the 25th anniversary celebrations. Now 86 years old, he walks with the aid of a stick but still maintains a razor sharp memory and entertaining charm.
In Peter’s address to the group, he fondly recalled the days when he and Clive Clark designed the course – one of 22 the pair worked on together. His abiding memory of Hurtmore was that it was always a dustbowl when he visited!
In his witty tongue in cheek manner, he commented that he had a chat with Course Manager Louis Ayres before coming in, and said “I remember your course manager had long flowing blond hair back then – time hasn’t been kind to you my son” which the members found hilarious knowing he never had blonde hair!
He said Hurtmore was a good test of golf for the club player and has always had a welcoming atmosphere. Peter’s advice was “never change what you are or try to be anything different and you won’t go far wrong.”
